Die Mannschaft wurde in der Saison 1977/78 von Manfred Walter trainiert. Es war eine durchwachsene Saison wo am Ende ein dritter Platz herraussprang. Gegen den Neiling und späteren Aufsteiger Stahl Nord-West wurde zweimal unentschieden gespielt und im Pokal Viertelfinale wurde mit 1:0 gewonnen. Im Halbfinale war dann gegen Chemie Eilenburg Endstation.
