In der Saison 1956 spielte der SC Lok lange um die Meisterschaft mit. Zum Ende wurde der 3. Platz belegt und die Vereinsführung war mit den abschneiden zufrieden. Am 8. Septemberkam es zum ersten Ortsderby im Zentralstadion. 100.000 Zuschauer wollten dieses Spiel erleben und sahen einen 2:1-Sieg des SC Lok. Diese Zuschauerzahl wurde in Deutschland nie wieder in einen Punktspiel erreicht. Trotzdem ab es auch Negatives. So wurde überaschend im Pokal in Wolfen verloren und damit aus den Wettbewerb ausgeschieden. im sommer bestritt des SC Lok eine Auslandsreise in Schweden wo vier Spiele ausgetragen wurden.
